Detail of "Beneath the Sun and Under the Moon".
Ideas for my paintings come from different sources. For example, a vacation could be the genesis of an image. Architectural forms and doorways reoccur as timeless symbols and inspiration for paintings that are often sparked by recent journeys, old sketchbook doodles or dreams. Even compositions that may at first appear to be purely abstract, on close examination, will usually reveal subtle reference to nature or spaces indicative of underlying personal narrative. I find that images and forms that come unbidden are often the best and in the absence of a good dream, automatic drawing is my "go to" way of sparking ideas.
